Remnants of War
03:41
|
|||
The weight of loss left a mark upon on her tired shoulders
The faintest hint of a Tuesday's bright confines
The strained repose of a soldier wandered through her keyhole
A dark mirage of a pain that circles in her eyes
And in the night should silence ever come
They’d hold their breath to hide from sight and sound
To live and write in the wake of loose and gathered remnants
A trumpet call in the distance shakes the ground
To see the light of the morning seep in through the mountains
Awakes new fear in the shade that creeps across the ground
And in the day when death is swift and blatant
A silent prayer cuts through the rumbling sound
A sleepless day is a comfort in this blustery weather
The smell of rain a distraction from the fire
There is no time to rest, to joylessly acquire
There is no peace, there won't be for a while
There is no peace, there won't be for a while

Lily White
03:38
|
|||
I can tell you all about the weather and the sun
Fickle-fingered letterer my heart has been undone
All you see are thunderclouds floating in the sky
But lily white and lavender I see them in your eyes
You were made with gladness in an everlasting light
Captured in my irises a frivolous delight
But beating deep upon my sleeve a slippery slope we'll find
I love you far too much my friend to trample on the line
And when you fall asleep
I’ll be there in the deep
This photographic reel would play
And slowly slip away
Conversations bout' the rain crackle in the leaves
Whisperings of poetry are written in the breeze
Glowing red and baby blue I'd turn to speak to you
But all this lovey-dovey prose I never will pursue
When I fall asleep
Tumbling in the reeds
Close your eyes I’ll be with you
If only you'd agree
And when you fall asleep
I'll be there in the deep
This pixel-perfect camera shot
Will hold back the debris
I fall asleep
I fall asleep
I fall asleep
I fall asleep
I fall asleep
Tumbling in the reeds
(I fall asleep)
Close your eyes I'll be with you
(I fall asleep)
If only you'd agree
(I fall asleep)
I can tell you all about the weather and the sun
Fickle-fingered letterer my heart has been undone
All you see are thunderclouds floating in the sky
But lily-white and lavender I see them in your eyes
Lily white and lavender I see them in your eyes
Lily white and lavender I see them in your eyes

Arial

I wrote "The Sky" in Arial
With 12-point font within
The little circle we had drawn
By the fence
In poster colours red and blue
The clouds we softly dreamt
Blushed in lighter hues
In words of inky black
And in this machine
Is a faint effigy
Of the Sun
In her garments of gold
But shrouded in dark
There's a man with a lark
Waiting for a hint
Of her glow
Oh I recall the silver beams
That held my frame of mind
As they filtered through
The spaces in the leaves
They underlined the cotton puffs
In bolder strokes of grey
That descended from the hills
Into my arms
And in my resolve
Though the Sun had dissolved
Into the greying
Thunderclouds
I stayed underneath
A plain tarpaulin sheet
Waiting for a glint
Of her glow
Rearranging characters
I chanced upon a fixed array
Imaginary permanence
The ending of a day
Italicised and justified
Finality in disarray
Crumbling like a statue or
A thrown away bouquet
Left out to the elements
The moss and moth have come to play
No amount of vanity
Can save what’s on display
Can save what’s on display
Save what’s on display
Can save what’s on display
Save what’s on display

Nautical Man
04:09
|
|||
You're a reed in a glass
Shoulders curved by angel breath
If you're not gonna laugh
Let my words like a mist go
I cannot pretend
You're far away
I've nothing to say
Hey, hey
Lift the grid off the photo
I can't tell you what to see
I'm a nautical man
Writhing in the shallow waters
If you know what I mean you'll see
That I might die in the bogs of the hinterlands
Lungs all stretched through the foliage
Clustered branches
Will you tell me its easy
To come onto shore soon
To climb up the beach?
My mirage have I found you?
I'm only falling down
I only feel uneasy
I saw it crawling on the floor
A creature breathing from its pores
You can't pretend that you don't know
It's only you
"Shall we go on and gather on the surface
Where there's room among my kind?"
I'm a fool to believe in it
But I'm far too deep to go
I can't go back
The world is turning black
A vile curse
Everyone is going home
I can't pretend
It's only getting worse
Don't go without me
I can't pretend
It's only getting worse
Oh, worse
I can't pretend
We're only getting worse
Oh ho oh
Lift the grid off the photo
I can't tell you what to see
I'm a nautical man
Writhing in the shallow waters
Toss out your vinyl colours
Cause I don't understand
Why in the world you'd want to plaster pictures
All around your head
Is it a signal you're a cultured man?
You're only getting bolder with the times
You shift and roll
Cosmicomic lines
Calvino's just for clout
But tell me if I'm wrong
You're just another universe

Waterhens
03:21
|
|||
Come locomotive chime your way
Gently into the ground
Tangle me, arrest my feet
Arise, emerge your crown
Waterhens survey your fens
Extending underneath
Growing as a channel bends
Slipping through their teeth
Iron heights reclaim their sprites
On the forest floor
Drifting through the morning dew
The semblance of a boar
Parallel, the banks they swell
Steeply in the rain
Whistling and wandering
Koels start to sing
Born for such
A golden hour
(Carnelian and bright)
Swallowed up
In mud and flowers
(Promethean guide)
Are grates that hold
Your winsome pride
(Carnelian and bright)
For man to trample
On your hide
(Promethean guide)
Born for such
A golden hour
(Carnelian and bright)
Swallowed up
In mud and flowers
(Promethean guide)
Are grates that hold
Your winsome pride
(Carnelian and bright)
For man to trample
On your hide

Born for such

Where I Can Be
03:38
|
|||
Sing softly
Grab my shirt and flee
Down to where, you'll see
Where I can be
I can see
Why you'd want to be
Wrapped around these trees
In this country
We would draw a map and
Feel the sun collapse upon our arms
In the summer light
Our egos strain to carry who we've become
I would feel it odd
If I had stayed and played
With these operatic chimes
Superstitious child-like whims
They call like visions
Late at night
Grab my feet
I feel like a leaf
Caught within your sleeve
Peeking out to breathe
We shall sieve
Through these dim-lit streets
For a house to dwell
Like a sleeper cell
On a phonograph
We'd leave a message just to bide our time
Ticking in the background
All these seconds leave their shells behind
I would feel it odd
If I had stayed and played
With these operatic chimes
Superstitious child-like whims
They call like visions
Late at night
Sing softly
Grab my shirt and flee
Down to where, you'll see
Where I can be

Serangoon Central
04:54
|
|||
Don’t fly over
Don’t fly over
On this porch
The sky is calling
Photograph
The wheels are turning
When I came back
The ground was rumbling
They filled the fields
With brand new cities
Slowly sprouting
Into countries
From Boundary Road
To Braddell’s inlets
All this building’s
Got me moving
But all I want
Is to see this place
At rest
Don’t fly over
Don’t fly over
From this porch
The streets they call you
I climbed the hill
To reach a garden
But all that’s left of home
Was broken
From Chartwell Drive
To Lorong Lew Lian
Serangoon’s northern half
Was growing
They breached the grounds
Of police stations
For disparate charms
Of condominiums
And it’s a sign
We’ll never stay
At rest
Intertwine my foolish thinking
Tightly round these walls
In due time we’re slowly leaking
Features in this squall
Intertwine my foolish thinking
Tightly round these walls
In due time we’re slowly leaking
Bidadari’s trees have fallen
I see your canopy
Your vast silhouette by night
Your branches grew like arms
Stretching up to hold the sky
Twisting
Turning down the old jogging path
I saw the bright white of the new industrial fence
The ground split by imprints
Footprints
And shoes soaked
Soles worn out by sediments
I feel the damp soil after the rain
The dark forest trail at dusk
Like a sparrow’s first song
Long lost to the night
I held your still small voice in my arms
A baby’s coo muffled beneath the dampened
Chatter of crickets
Like at the coming of the Lord
As fresh dew disappears by noon
The wind takes you home

Glass Flowers
01:52
|
|||
Signs of life
In the cold
Lilacs bud
In the silence
Blue starlings
Flock overhead
Old pine trees
Meet me ahead
Barren roads
Thick with snow
Abandoned nests
In the forest
House sparrows
Build new homes
With glass flowers
And well-worn stones
Such modest providence
Holds me in
The brittle confidence
Of past seasons

I Still Dream
03:36
|
|||
I still dream and just dream
A tiny voice says it's sufficient
Just pick some stones downstream
To build a castle magnificent
I still dream and just dream
To see the beauty of your face
Loveliest visions of pure love beam
And memories of nameless grace
I still dream and just dream
Strands of hair that gently kiss your face
Touched by wind and stars agleam
With love so pure, so dear in its dwelling place
I still dream and just dream
Of the house I knew before
Where roses and violets grew by the stream
But now they fade for sure and are no more
I still dream and just dream
Of the trees I climbed, dark and high
To view their slender tops supreme
A childish dream to touch the sky
I still dream and just dream
But now fond hopes are pure pipedreams
Dead years like dark clouds in heaven's height
So sad, so strange, they still lurk in all delight
What is my only comfort in life and death
What is my only comfort in life and death
What is my only comfort
What is my only comfort
What is my only comfort in life and death
I shun the dream of heaven for there's little joy
It's much farther than I was just a boy

My Only Comfort
03:33
|
|||
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
That I belong body and soul
To my faithful Saviour
Oh I'm not my own
He's fully paid for my sin with his precious blood
And set me free from tyranny
Should the devil yell for blood
Watching over me
He does it such that not a single hair
Can fall off from my head
Without my Father's will
My Father
In heaven
Works all things in mind
For my salvation
I belong to Christ
His Holy Spirit assures I'm alive
Eternally to choose to live my life
Willingly and readily to His design
My Father
In heaven
Works all things in mind
For my
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
(What is my only comfort?)
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
(What is my only comfort?)
What is my only comfort?
(What is my only?)
What is my only comfort?
(What is my only?)
What is my only comfort
In life and death?
(What is my only comfort?)
